The most important game in the last round took place in San Salvador between second ranked Salvadorenos (4-2) and fourth ranked Metapan (4-2) on Thursday night. Salvadorenos were defeated by Metapan at home 88-74. Metapan looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American swingman Eddie Ishman (197-1986, college: Miles) chipped in 14 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was power forward Brayan Garcia (194-1998) with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Salvadorenos' coach Sergio Rouco rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Metapan moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Salvadorenos. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Liga MB top team - San Salvador (6-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat seventh ranked Cojute (2-4) in Cojutepeque 71-55. Forward Alejandro Barahona (189-1999) notched 22 points to lead the effort and Marc Montavious supported him with 8 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks. Even 19 points by American center Troidell Carter (206-1991, college: Slippery Rock) did not help to save the game for Cojute. Undefeated San Salvador have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record. Cojute at the other side dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. They share the position with A.Lobos. San Salvador will play against A.Lobos (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cojute will play against Brujos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Santiagueno (0-5) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to seventh ranked Santa Tecla (3-3) 110-79 on Thursday evening. The best player for the winners was Andravious Smith who scored 44 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Angel Oquendo who recorded 26 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place. Loser Santiagueno still closes the standings with five games lost. Santa Tecla will meet at home A.Lobos (#9) in the next round.
